2010-09-28 – Anthony Marr’s C ARE-7 tour blog #29 – IL, WI

This is the second last blog of Anthony Marr’s CARE-7 tour (Compassion for Animals Road Expedition #7), and it is ending with a few bangs.

Photobucket

For one thing, the September 25 Madison WI event at the Goodman Community Center, organized by Lynn Pauly of Alliance For Animals, with well over 100 present, so much so that more tables and chairs had to be hauled in, and even so not enough, was one of the best attended on the tour, and, like so many other events on this tour, it was one of the best attended of all events organized by the host group ever.

Photobucket

The September 19 Chicago IL event was an exquisite affair at the near-legendary Karyn’s on Green vegan restaurant, which served 4 delicious appetizers at 30 minute intervals before my speech.

Other than my hosts Kris and Pat Konrady and other Chicago notables, it was attended by two terrific FB-friends from Milwaukee – Melissa (“Missy Vegan Oddity”) and David (“Junk Food Vegan”), who, having heard my speech, have now arranged for me to speak in Milwaukee on October 2, Saturday, which the Konradys will also attend.

More on the Madison event, following is the blog of my dear friend Amy Burns, in whose parents Betty’s and Marvin’s home I’m currently staying, and whose very endearing daughter Luciana is destined to be one of the future leaders of our movement.

on Anthony Marr

We’ve been keeping busy with our friend, Anthony Marr, who arrived last Thursday for a visit. He will be staying here in WI until Saturday, which gives us plenty of time to visit, though I have less time to blog.

Photobucket
[Luciana Burns-Dwyer]

Luciana has been anxiously waiting for this visit for many months and would prefer to have him all to herself. She’s not too thrilled to share his time or attention with others. She has allowed us some time to catch up with him, usually after she’s supposed to be in bed.

Photobucket

Saturday night was the Alliance for Animals’ annual vegan chili fest. It is normally a competition with everyone vying for the best chili title. Mark (*Mark Dwyer – Amy’s husband) has won for three years. This year, rather than a competition, it was a chili of the champions dinner. Each previous award winning chili was there for our enjoyment. Mark brought both of his winners. I like them both, though I prefer his “lumpy fart chili” (he came up with that lovely title), because it’s a bit spicier than the “not on a first date” chili.

Photobucket

The event was very well attended. After filling the room, we had to seek additional chairs. Extra tables and chairs were added — as many as could be packed into the room, and we still ran out of seats. That’s awesome, both because it’s a fundraiser for AFA, and because there was a big crowd for Anthony’s talk.

Photobucket

Mark introduced Anthony as the speaker and gave a brief bio and well-earned, glowing praise. I got a fun shot of M giving the introduction, holding up A’s first book, while A was taking a picture of M. Anthony spoke for 1.5 hours, and could easily have continued, but for the time limitations of our room rental. The crowd was entranced for the most part, as his message is obviously true, dire, and frightening beyond belief! There were many, many comments after his talk about how much people enjoyed hearing his message.

Photobucket

I have heard much of the content of this talk before, though there was definitely some new information added. Still, hearing it again was not remotely boring. There aren’t many people who I can listen to talking for more than an hour (with me being forced to sit in one place and do nothing else!) without going stir crazy! As SHOULD any speaker who is confident in the accuracy and content of their message, he encourages his audience to research it themselves. There is no hiding behind a claimed ‘leader’ status and expecting the audience to just accept and swallow it whole. Over and over throughout his talk, he repeatedly tells the audience to verify for themselves, Google the terms and statistics, and otherwise do due diligence in verifying the veracity of everything he says. At this point in my life, I believe nothing without verifying it myself, my way, and with my own sources. I greatly appreciate the confidence in someone encouraging such behavior, rather than so many who expect you to just accept their (often self-proclaimed) authority and simply digest and absorb their ‘facts’.

Photobucket

Even though I know Anthony well, and know him to be a man of great integrity, I still feel it necessary to do my own digging and checking. The beauty of it is, I have found that he is absolutely correct (to my dismay, given the dire implications), and he is not remotely offended by my need to validate. And along with Anthony, I urge you to do your own research and validation rather than just blindly accept my word on it. If everyone one in the U.S. did this — hell, if even a quarter of us did this on a regular basis — this would be an entirely different country!

Photobucket

Sunday was busy for Anthony! He wanted to go along to Luciana’s Bharatanatyam class on Sunday afternoon. He has, in the past, spent much time in India and had seen some performances in India. The music, movement, and costumes are so beautiful, once you’ve experienced that, you want to see more of it. It really is a fantastic art form! Meenakshi and the girls are working very hard this month to get ready for the big performance on the 23rd. They are spending twice as much time in class this month, and will have some additional practices the week before the event.

Photobucket

Anthony took quite a few pics of Luciana in her class, and many of them turned out beautifully (other than the fact that she had not gotten enough sleep Fri or Sat and looked somewhat like a little dead girl). All of the photos shown were taken by Anthony.

Photobucket

We got back in town with enough time for A to have a quick bit of lunch and then head to Beloit for his Sunday evening speaking engagement. He arrived back from that in time for a late dinner of tofurky roast with mashed potatoes and gravy.

[Right seat: Allegrea and Anthony]

The event in Beloit WI took place in the Poetry Garden of Beloit College. I was driven there by my friend Allegrea and her mother Valerie. It was an intimate discussion around an outdoors table. As in many group discussions of late, a point of common consensus is that we need to build a national coalition of green tech advocates to lobby for a European-style green super grid in America.

Photobucket
[planned to be online by 2015]

And the groups and people I have given my lecture to are prime and primed for forming and joining this green tech coalition.

Thanks again to Catherine Garneau for initiating and scheduling these events.

WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN KILL YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN!

WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN KILL YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN – Hidden Heat and Arctic Ice Death Spiral

Photobucket
[The Europeans have a green masterplan, while America, quagmired in the black oil economy, has none.]

Photobucket
[China has taken the lead in green technology innovation, while “American ingenuity” has been stifled by the Big Oil lobby]

What almost no American knows is Latent Heat (Hidden Heat), and when Latent Heat becomes Sensible Heat, it can eventually cause the disintegration of human civilization and the extinction of up to 85% of all species on Earth, including our own.

Photobucket
[Big Oil has spent $250 million in waging its Global-Warming-Denial campaign, dumbing down Americans in a matter of life and death]

Let me give one quick example. Fill a pot with ice water, containing 1 kg (2.2 lb) of ice cubes. Stir it with a thermometer, and it will read 0C/32F. Now put the pot on a stove and turn on the heat.

Question: When will the water begin to warm up?

Answer: After all the ice has melted. It takes 80 calories of heat to melt one gram of ice WITHOUT RAISING THE WATER TEMPERATURE. It take 80,000 calories to melt the 1 kg of ice cubes without raising the water temperature by one degree. After the ice has all melted, on the other hand, the water temperature will rise rapidly to the boiling point.

Photobucket

This is a small scale demonstration of the real thing: the Arctic Ocean. As long as there is sea ice remaining in the Arctic Ocean left to melt, the water temperature will remain relatively cool. But once the sea ice is gone, its temperature will rise, and rise rapidly. It is estimated that the Arctic Ocean will be ice free in the summer some time within this coming decade.

Photobucket
[Massive melting of land glaciers worldwide, including the 2000 in the Himalayas, which feed 8 major Asian rivers, which in turn feed 3 billion people in China, India and SE Asia]

The resulting sudden rise in Arctic Ocean temperature will cause a 2-stage devastation:

Photobucket
[Due to global warming, there is 5% more water in the atmosphere than previously, but the warmer air can hold 20% more water before saturation, thus leading to a progressive decline in the global relative humidity]

1. the global Millennium Drought, which will cause severe food shortages in diverse places, including even homeland America, and massive famine in the driest of densely populated regions, and

Photobucket

2. the detonation of the Methane Time Bomb, leading to Runaway Global Heating, which can raise the global temperature by some 15C/24F, causing the mass extinction of up to 85% of all species on Earth within 2 centuries, as it once did 251 million years ago in the End-Permian Mass Extinction cause indeed by global heating.

Arctic Ice in Death Spiral
By Stephen Leahy

UXBRIDGE, Canada, Sep 20, 2010 (IPS) – The carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels have melted the Arctic sea ice to its lowest volume since before the rise of human civilisation, dangerously upsetting the energy balance of the entire planet, climate scientists are reporting.

“The Arctic sea ice has reached its four lowest summer extents (area covered) in the last four years,” said Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center in the U.S. city of Boulder, Colorado.

The volume – extent and thickness – of ice left in the Arctic likely reached the lowest ever level this month, Serreze told IPS.

“I stand by my previous statements that the Arctic summer sea ice cover is in a death spiral. It’s not going to recover,” he said.

There can be no recovery because tremendous amounts of extra heat are added every summer to the region as more than 2.5 million square kilometres of the Arctic Ocean have been opened up to the heat of the 24-hour summer sun. A warmer Arctic Ocean not only takes much longer to re-freeze, it emits huge volumes of additional heat energy into the atmosphere, disrupting the weather patterns of the northern hemisphere, scientists have now confirmed.

“The exceptional cold and snowy winter of 2009-2010 in Europe, eastern Asia and eastern North America is connected to unique physical processes in the Arctic,” James Overland of the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in the United States told IPS in Oslo, Norway last June in an exclusive interview. ‘ Paradoxically, a warmer Arctic means “future cold and snowy winters will be the rule rather than the exception” in these regions, Overland told IPS.

There is growing evidence of widespread impacts from a warmer Arctic, agreed Serreze. “Trapping all that additional heat has to have impacts and those will grow in the future,” he said.

One local impact underway is a rapid warming of the coastal regions of the Arctic, where average temperatures are now three to five degrees C warmer than they were 30 years ago. If the global average temperature increases from the present 0.8 C to two degrees C, as seems likely, the entire Arctic region will warm at least four to six degrees and possibly eight degrees due to a series of processes and feedbacks called Arctic amplification.

A similar feverish rise in our body temperatures would put us in hospital if it didn’t kill us outright.

“I hate to say it but I think we are committed to a four- to six-degree warmer Arctic,” Serreze said.

If the Arctic becomes six degrees warmer, then half of the world’s permafrost will likely thaw, probably to a depth of a few metres, releasing most of the carbon and methane accumulated there over thousands of years, said Vladimir Romanovsky of the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and a world expert on permafrost.

Methane is a global warming gas approximately 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide (CO2).

That would be catastrophic for human civilisation, experts agree. The permafrost region spans 13 million square kilometres of the land in Alaska, Canada, Siberia and parts of Europe and contains at least twice as much carbon as is currently present in the atmosphere – 1,672 gigatonnes of carbon, according a paper published in Nature in 2009. That’s three times more carbon than all of the worlds’ forests contain.

“Permafrost thawing has been observed consistently across the entire region since the 1980s,” Romanovsky said in an interview.

A Canadian study in 2009 documented that the southernmost permafrost limit had retreated 130 kilometres over the past 50 years in Quebec’s James Bay region. At the northern edge, for the first time in a decade, the heat from the Arctic Ocean pushed far inland this summer, Romanovsky said.

There are no good estimates of how much CO2 and methane is being released by the thawing permafrost or by the undersea permafrost that acts as a cap over unknown quantities of methane hydrates (a type of frozen methane) along the Arctic Ocean shelf, he said.

“Methane is always there anywhere you drill through the permafrost,” Romanovsky noted.

Last spring , Romanovsky’s colleagues reported that an estimated eight million tonnes of methane emissions are bubbling to the surface from the shallow East Siberian Arctic shelf every year in what were the first-ever measurements taken there. If just one percent of the Arctic undersea methane reaches the atmosphere, it could quadruple the amount of methane currently in the atmosphere.

Abrupt releases of large amounts of CO2 and methane are certainly possible on a scale of decades, he said. The present relatively slow thaw of the permafrost could rapidly accelerate in a few decades, releasing huge amounts of global warming gases.

Another permafrost expert, Ted Schuur of the University of Florida, has come to the same conclusion. “In a matter of decades we could lose much of the permafrost,” Shuur told IPS.

Those losses are more likely to come rapidly and upfront, he says. In other words, much of the permafrost thaw would happen at the beginning of a massive 50-year meltdown because of rapid feedbacks.

Emissions of CO2 and methane from thawing permafrost are not yet factored into the global climate models and it will be several years before this can be done reasonably well, Shuur said.

“Current mitigation targets are only based on anthropogenic (human) emissions,” he explained.

Present pledges by governments to reduce emissions will still result in a global average temperature increase of 3.5 to 3.9 C by 2100, according to the latest analysis. That would result in an Arctic that’s 10 to 16 degrees C warmer, releasing most of the permafrost carbon and methane and unknown quantities of methane hydrates.

This why some climate scientists are calling for a rapid phaseout of fossil fuels, recommending that fossil fuel emissions peak by 2015 and decline three per cent per year. But even then there’s still a 50-percent probability of exceeding two degrees C current studies show. If the emissions peak is delayed until 2025, then global temperatures will rise to three degrees C, the Arctic will be eight to 10 degrees warmer and the world will lose most its permafrost.

Meanwhile, a new generation of low-cost, thin-film solar roof and outside wall coverings being made today has the potential to eliminate burning coal and oil to generate electricity, energy experts believe – if governments have the political will to fully embrace green technologies.

2010-09-17 – Anthony Marr’s CARE-7 tour blog #28 – PA, OH

In this my 40-states-in-7-months Compassion for Animals Road Expedition #7 (CARE-7), I’ve been on the road for 5.5 months (since April 1, 2010), but it doesn’t mean that things have slowed down. In fact, the last week was the busiest ever – with 7 events in 8 days, plus 4 10-hour drives and 2 shorter ones in between.

Photobucket

My schedule was as follows:

Sept 5, Sunday – Swarthmore College, Swarthmore PA – meeting with local activists,

Sept 6, Monday – Swarthmore College, meeting with ecology professor in the afternoon, and delivering a speech in the evening,

Sept 7, Tuesday – Columbus OH – lecture at the Grandview Heights Public Library, hosted by Corey Roscoe, Mercy for Animals,

Sept 8, Wednesday – Cleveland OH – lecture at the Beachwood Library, hosted by Jennifer Kaden, Cleveland Animal Rights Alliance,

Sept 9, Thursday – Cleveland OH – lecture at the Pilgrim Congregation Church, hosted by Dr. Steve Kaufman, the Christian Vegetarian Society,

Sept 11, Saturday – Troy (near Dayton) OH – lecture hosted by Myshell Haller at the AHOWAN Spiritual Sanctuary,

Sept 12, Sunday – Cincinnati OH – lecture at Devou Park, hosted by Mary Ann Lederer, Earthsave & the new group Vegan Earth.

Photobucket

In the mid-morning of September 3, Friday, I bade Ted and Carol farewell, and drove 7 hours from Rochester NY to Swarthmore PA. When approaching the campus of Swarthmore College, I called my host Ethan Bogdan, a sophomore in environmental studies, who, lacking the exact address of his dormitory, waited for me at the intersection of Harvard and Yale, and pointed out to me the tree-shaded parking lot where my Green Hornet was to stay until Tuesday morning before leaving for Columbus, Ohio. As if to prove the adage that “nothing ever works exactly according to plan”, however, she had to stay in Swarthmore until Friday.

Photobucket

Since blowing the front left tire at high speed on July 19 from Pittsburgh PA to New Jersey, I’ve felt a little abnormality in her steering. Since the time of my arrival in Swarthmore was about 4:30pm, I took her to an auto service place near campus for a check up. The mechanics put her up on a hoist, and found that her lower control arm bushing had come loose, and advised me in no uncertain terms that to drive her at high speed was to court disaster, where her front wheel could suddenly seize up, causing me to lose control of the car as well as wrecking the transmission. Unfortunately, it was closing time, and the beginning of the Labor Day long weekend, and nothing could be done until Tuesday. They did point my way to the local branch of the Pep Boys chain, which stayed open throughout the weekend. There they told me that, yes, they would stay open, but since the parts department of the Mazda dealers would be closed, again, nothing could be done until Tuesday soonest. The problem was that my next engagement was at 6:30 pm on Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, a good 10 hours’ drive from Swarthmore, and there was no way I could get the Green Hornet fixed before driving and making the event on time.

My initial thought was to cancel the engagement, but upon further deliberation, considering the work that Corey Roscoe had put into organizing the event, I decided to drop the Green Hornet off to Pep Boys at 7:30am on Tuesday, take a taxi to the Philadelphia airport 20 minutes away to get a rental car, from where I would drive to Columbus, aiming to arrive by about 5pm. Immediately after the event, I would drive 2 hours to Cleveland for the night, do the two events there, then right after the second Cleveland event on Thursday evening, drive 9 hours overnight back to the Philadelphia airport to drop off the rental car by 8am Friday morning, take a taxi back to Pep Boys to pick up the Green Hornet, catch a nap or two at Ethan’s dorm room at Swarthmore, then drive 11 hours to Dayton OH the following day for the lecture in Troy, followed by a 2 hours drive to Cincinnati same evening for the next day’s lecture, then relax after the strenuous week. So the plan went, and this time it did unfold exactly as planned.

I especially like and received a lot of comments on the more positive view of what we can do on an individual level in order to help bring about a shift in the overall “doom & gloom”. Thank you for educating us that we as pieces of the Whole are on the right track toward the Greater Shift into the Golden Age. My only regret was that you were unable to stay longer and experience the incredible drumming circle. We got a lot of positive energy moving. Again, you are priceless to the Mission and the strength of your will is definitely The Source moving through you. Humanity is grateful for your drive, courage, and perseverance. Namaste.”

Anthony Marr wishes to thank Catherine Garneau, Co-Vice-President of the Global Anti-Hunting Coalition (GAHC), for making all these events happen, especially the one in Cincinnati which otherwise would not have. This was due to the infamous libelous mass-email against Anthony Marr sent out by GAHC’s unprincipled and unethical ex-VP under the pseudonym of “Dapook” to numerous event hosts, characterizing Anthony to be a violent issuer of death threats, among other things too unsavory to repeat, a copy of which ended up in Cincinnati event host Mary Ann Lederer’s email inbox, which caused her to seriously consider canceling the event. Thanks to Catherine’s forthright and truthful communications with Mary Ann, the event was saved, and turned out to be one of the best in the tour. Thanks again, Catherine!

Sport fishing is cruel and immoral

Photobucket

Is sport fishing cruelty to animals?

Sep 15th, 2010

by Rafe Mair
Canada’s best known political commentator and radio personality extraordinaire

Photobucket

I read a column the other day that dragged up an inner distress that I’ve tried to subvert. The theme of the article was that we kill our fish cruelly – by suffocation.

“Animal Rights” has been an ever growing issue for many years now and I suppose some progress has been made. There are laws; there is the SPCA and there are organizations that deal with individual issues like bull fighting. Paul Watson, the bravest man I’ve ever known, fights to save whales. My friend Anthony Marr, founder and major player in Heal Our Planet Earth (HOPE), fights for the entire animal kingdom every day of every year. Yet, somehow fish are nowhere to be seen.

Perhaps it’s all got something to do with Jesus, who not only didn’t rail against fishing but helped disciples to catch them.

When I was a child I would catch rock cod and watch them slowly die because it could take an hour or more. As I grew older, salmon and trout were put in a sack to breathe their last. I’m not proud of this but I was scarcely alone.

As I grew older, I was a pretty fair fly fisherman and as the years passed, became less and less enthusiastic about killing my catch. When “catch and release” became in fashion in the 70′s, I was relieved and my conscience shut up for awhile. Then I read an article by a fly fisherman Hugh Falkus – an Englishman whom I much admired – who said that: “catch and release” was immoral because what we were doing was tormenting fish – that what we should do is kill what we wanted and quit. Shit! I didn’t want to hear that so I kept on catching and releasing until one day, fishing the Tauranga-Taupo River in New Zealand, my absolute favourite, while landing a trout, I saw three or four swim up with her until I netted her. “For God’s sake”, I murmured, “don’t tell me they care!” My conscience spun into gear again!

A few days later, Wendy (also a fine fisherman), still in New Zealand, and I were at a Game Fish Club for dinner and saw on the wharf, two Marlin and one Shark, hanging with blood down their flanks.

Why?, I asked. Where’s the need? These weren’t to go on an aboriginal’s table. It was a slaughter for the sake of slaughter.

On my record I was in no position to make a judgment and didn’t and don’t. But I quit fishing and, worst of all, tying flies which was a wonderful hobby for me. I would tie next to my computer and when an editorial idea struck just had to turn a bit and bang it out.

Through all this inner inspection process I began to think about fishing and especially commercial fishing and how their catches died. And more and more I was troubled.

What was the difference in leaving a trapped animal to die slowly until the trapper came along and throwing fish in the hold and letting them suffocate to death?

I used to console myself with the “cold blooded creature” argument that fish couldn’t feel but I knew and know that this is rubbish. Any sports fisher who has “played” a fish knows that they are indeed vexed at being hooked.

What now?, Rafe. I can’t call for an end to fishing! Many, many people the world over depend upon fishing, both of the commercial and “sports”. I have thousands of dollars of equipment that someone had to make and sell. I have a very large library of fishing books, many of them classics.

No, this is something that has to work its way through the consciousness of mankind as bear baiting, pit bull fighting, cockfighting, and now, bull fighting has done.

All I can do is raise the issue.

Anthony Marr comments:

I was honored as Rafe’s guest more than once when he was top host at CKNW. He had always known my views on hunting, but once, he asked me, on the air, what I thought of sport fishing. My answer was, “Any activity in which we derive pleasure out of another’s suffering is immoral.” This was obviously a general statement, but just as obviously, in this instant, it referred specifically to sport fishing. And I hope that it played a part in Rafe’s eventual departure from the “sport”. There has never been any doubt in my mind that fish can feel pain.

Since then, I have moved on to global warming and mass extinction. We are currently deep in the 6th mass extinction on Earth, losing over 100+ known species and perhaps 1000 unknown species every day. There was a case precedent, the 3rd, 251 million years ago, the End-Permian mass extinction, which drove 75% of all land species and 95% of all marine species to extinction, due, yes, to global warming. And the current 6th mass extinction threatens to equal or exceed the 3rd in severity. If we likewise lose 95% of all marine species, the fish species will take a major hit. Even when I speak about the planet in general, the fish are always included, and generally implied.

The Optimal WAY OF MAN

The Optimal WAY OF MAN

Photobucket

It is 2010 AD, and the world is on the brink of global disaster. Homo Sapiens has lost its way and is on a war path to destroy the planet, life on Earth, and therefore itself.

Photobucket

We need to know the optimal WAY OF MAN in order to save the planet, life on Earth, and ourselves.

Photobucket

Photobucket

War, conflict and destruction have been integral parts of human history. But out of war has come peace, out of conflict has come harmony, and out of destruction will come the construction of a brave new world. Let’s beginning with the Trojan War in 1185 BC, and see where it leads us:

Photobucket
World map – 500 BC
Legend:
white – uninhabited
yellow – hunter-gatherers
magenta – nomadic pastoralists
green – simple farming societies
amber – complex farming societies or chiefdoms
blue – state societies
brown – empires

1130 BC – dawning of the Iron Age,
1120 BC – magnetic compass invented by the Chinese,
1100 BC – alphabetic script developed by the Phoenicians,
1000 BC – gun powder invented by the Chinese,
750-700 BC – Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey,
776 BC – the Olympic Games started in Greece,
753 BC – the founding of Rome,
725 BC – Sparta conquered Messenia,
650 BC – earliest writing in the Americas by the Olmec culture,
621 BC – Draco established Draconian laws over Athens,
600 BC – Anaximander theorized that humans rose from other species,
559 BC – Cyrus the Great formed the Persian Empire,
532 BC – Pythagoras started his school in Croton, Greece,
490 BC – 11,000 Athenians defeated 100,000 Persians at Marathon,
480 BC – the “300 Spartans” against King Xerxes of Persia,
480 BC – the Second Persian War, where Xerxes destroyed Athens,
479 BC – Greek naval victory over Persians at Salamis,
470 BC – 110,000 Greeks defeated 300,000 Persians at Plataea, with 257,000 Persian casualties and only 159 Greek casualties…

During this time period, half a world away, China was undergoing its Spring-and-Autumn period, where internal warfare waged for some three centuries. During the Chou (Zhou) Dynasty (1027-256 BC), the kingdom of Chou gave rise to over 35 supposedly subservient feudal states, which eventually became so powerful that not only did they begin warring amongst each other, some even openly challenged the authority of Chou. Thus arose the Warring States period, where the warring states, through alliances and conquests became reduced to 7 major powers (Chai, Chaw, Yeen, Hon, Dsew, Ngai, Chin). These powers escalated the wars to epic proportions, destroyed Chou in 256 BC, and each other, until finally, in the year 221 BC, Chin (Qin) conquered every other state with its iron-clad army (see terra cotta statues), and became the First Empire of China.

Photobucket

Some time during this period, two great Chinese philosophers came to the fore – Lao Tsu (604-? BC) and Confucius (551-479 BC), who were contemporaries in the latter half of the 6th Century BC. But they diverged significantly in their philosophies.

Photobucket

The philosophy was Confucius was anthropocentric, which placed humans on the upper echelons of all things, and the king, said to be the Son of Heaven, sat on the pinnacle of the human hierarchy. Confucius traveled from state to state – on foot, on horse back and by carriage – preaching peace and harmony among the states, under the supreme authority of Chou. But given the wartime mentality of the day, his words were by-and-large ignored, and his efforts by-and-large in vain.

Photobucket

After his travels, he established his Confucian school of philosophy, which taught three thousand pupils under one roof.

Photobucket

In contrast, Lao Tzu’s philosophy was naturalistic, which placed humanity into the fabric of nature as an integral part of it, rather than being above and apart from it.

Photobucket

Instead of conquering nature, he taught harmonizing with nature, harmony within nature, and going with the natural flow of all things. He invented the term “The Tao” – “The Way of the Cosmos” – about which, in his magnum opus The Tao Teh Ching, he wrote:

Photobucket

“The Way of Man accords to the Way of the Earth;
the Way of the Earth accords to the Way of the Sky;
the Way of the Sky accords to the Way of the Cosmos – The Tao;
and the Tao simply is, according to its own Nature.”

Thus, if Man understands Nature, he would understand the Tao, then the Way of the Sky, then the Way of the Earth, and then the optimal Way of Man.

Photobucket

Unfortunately, the Tao Teh Ching began with the saying: “The Tao that can be conceived and spoken is not the true and eternal Tao.” Thus, the subsequent generations of Taoists suspended all inquiry, and maintained a certain silence, pretending that they knew it. And thus, the great philosophy of Taoism has degenerated, through the ages, into a house of sorcery. But Lao Tzu’s deeper wisdom has remained.

Photobucket

Ma Seeu-Sung was born in China (1944 AD) in the great Age of Science. Science is the study of Nature, based upon the understanding from which the Tao – the Way of the Cosmos – then the Way of the Sky, then the Way of the Earth, and then, the optimal Way of Man, can be conceived, and spoken.

Photobucket

In 1979, the westernized Anthony Marr, a man of science with a physics degree, camped out solo in East Africa in search of purpose and destiny. He returned to his new homeland Canada with a new science-and-logic-based philosophical system known as the OMNISCIENTIFIC COSMOLOGY, a cosmological system based not only on the physical sciences as per the conventional cosmologies, but the biological and social sciences as well, on the premise that life and civilization are as much of integral parts of the Cosmos as the moon and the stars.

Photobucket

In 2003 AD, he published the OMNISCIENTIFIC COSMOLOGY in the form of a book titled [OMNI-SCIENCE and the Human Destiny] (available at http://www.Amazon.com), and in 2009, he published his videos titled [The MEANING OF LIFE according to Anthony Marr].

Thus, the “Inconceivable” has been conceived, and the “Unspeakable” spoken: the TAO, thus the optimal WAY OF MAN, is INTEGRATIVE TRANSCENDENCE.

Anthony Marr’s CARE-7 tour blog #27

New Hampshire & New York

The last 10 days saw four successful events, one in New Hampshire and three in New York, and tomorrow, we have lined up an interview with a potential future U.S. president – slated for CARE-7 tour blog #28, not to be missed!

First, the August 23 event at Concord, New Hampshire. At the tail end of my flu attack, I made good my promise to Linda Dionne of New Hampshire Animal Rights, who organized the event, and drove the 7 hours from Steve B’s place in New Jersey for my 6 pm presentation.

Photobucket

Although Concord was a small city, over a dozen people showed up, including Courtney Barron, who happened to be a mutual friend of the two you-know-whos.

After the event, Courtney wrote in my Facebook profile page: “It was so great meeting you yesterday Anthony! I truly enjoyed your lecture last night and it left me with a lot to think about!!! Travel safe:-)”
August 24 at 10:28am

Anthony Marr: “Hey Courtney! I was just thinking about dropping you a line to establish contact in FB. Thanks for writing so soon. Say hi to your mom.”
August 24 at 5:05pm

Courtney Barron Ⓥ “:-) Beat ya to it.. Ha. I will definitely tell my mom you said hello! I just read your recent blog on Giordano Bruno. Good stuff… sorry you had to suffer in order to write it though! Hope your travels are going well:-)”
August 24 at 10:06pm

Anthony Marr: “The suffering was worth it, to get that vision. Traveling is going well, several talks in NY lined up before month end, then on to PA and OH. And how are you?”
August 26 at 10:09am

Courtney Barron Ⓥ: “Glad to hear you are moving along on your tour just fine! I’m doing well thanks for asking:-) NH isn’t all that exciting, but I can’t really complain. How are you doing? I can imagine you are tired from the constant traveling! I’m looking forward to your next blog:-)

About Anthony Marr

Anthony Marr is the founder of Heal Our Planet Earth (www.hope-care.org),
the Global Emergency Operation, and the Global Anti-Hunting Coalition.
He is the 2010 Animal Rights Conference recipient of the Henry Spira Grassroots Animal Activist Award.
Anthony is the the primary author of the book [Homo Sapiens! SAVE YOUR EARTH!]
His blogsite is:
http://homosapienssaveyourearth.blogspot.com/

Anthony holds a science degree from the UBC and has worked as a field geophysicist and an environmental technologist. In 1995, he became a full time wildlife preservationist, which has brought him to India three times, earning him the title of the “Champion of the Bengal Tiger” in the Champions of the Wild TV series aired in 20 countries. As an anti-hunting activist, he has conducted high profile campaigns in Canada for the bears and seals, and been to Japan twice for the whales and dolphins. He is is currently on his 7th Compassion for Animals Road Expedition (CARE-7 which will span 40 states over 7 months.. He is also the author of Omni-Science and the Human Destiny.

Anti-Trophy-Hunting
In 1996, Anthony Marr, then a campaign director of Western Canada Wilderness Committee, led a province-wide referendum campaign towards banning bear hunting in BC. He personally performed a 12,000 km, 8-week, 50-city road tour to build a volunteer force which grew to 1,800-strong. Anthony was dogged and harassed by large groups of hunters from city to city (120 in Prince George), but generate some 150 newspaper articles, which said, “… the highest profile Canadian animal rights campaign of 1996… led by Anthony Marr with extraordinary intensity, barn-storming the province… stirring up emotions single-handedly from Vancouver to Fort Saint John.”

Protecting Whales and Dolphins
Anthony Marr played an active part in combating Makah whaling in Washington state. He also went to Japan twice to investigate whaling and the whale meat trade and conduct anti-whaling missions. Through the action he has taken a large collection of highly revealing photos of the various aspect of the whaling industry which he made into a PowerPoint presentation titled Know Thy Enemy. While in Japan, Anthony also investigated the dolphin capture-slaughter industry at Taiji and Futo, as well as conducted experimental dolphin-saving operations, photos of which being also included in Know Thy Enemy

Opposing the Canadian Seal Massacre
Anthony has been active in the anti-seal-massacre movement since the mid 1990s, and is one of the leaders of the global anti-sealing movement. He has organized, led and participated in many high profile anti-sealing media events, including the Funeral Motorcade for the Seals. He has also performed a 100-km Funeral March for the Seals from Mission to Vancouver and Victoria.

Omniscientific Cosmology
Integrative Transcendence – the Science of Peace When Anthony Marr was 33, he went camping solo in the Africa savannah, sleeping under the stars amidst lions. What he brought back to Canada three months later was a new philosophical system known as the Omniscientific Cosmology, hailed as “original”, “beautiful”, “fascinating”, “formidable“, “immensely logical” and “ground-breaking.”

Undercover Operations
Anthony Marr has performed undercover operations in the Chinatowns of Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, Ottawa, New York and San Francisco, as well as in the convoluted enclaves of New Delhi and Calcutta, as well as the dolphin-killing village of Taiji and the whaling port of Shimonoseki, Japan. After the investigations, he led media into the enclaves in question, which usually became high profile newspaper articles and TV broadcasts. This highly popular media coverage forced the federal government to pass and enact the WAPPRITTA wildlife protection laws within months.

Deep-Rural-India Expeditions
Anthony Marr has led three deep-rural expeditions in India, to work inside the tiger reserves and with the villagers who live in the buffer zones surrounding the core areas. One of the strategies is to slow, halt and reverse deforestation by introduction of solar cooking and biogas technology to supplant wood-burning.

I appreciate the obvious sincerity of those who could not attend. Still a fairly sizable group of about 20 people showed up, and due to their unwavering attention, my lecture went from 7:00 pm to 9:45 pm, with nary a person leaving prior to its proper conclusion, by which time I had covered both runaway global heating and hunting in reasonable detail.

The following day, Tia Foster, one of the people present, wrote the following in her Facebook page, which garnered a good number of comments:

Tia Foster Ⓥ: “I went to hear Anthony Marr speak tonight and I was absolutely blown away. The information he provided astounded me. All you hear about hunting is a lie. The conspiracy surrounding hunting is bizarre and twisted. Don’t believe the overpopulation myth. Guess who is causing the overpopulation? THE HUNTERS THEMSELVES. I’m… tired, I will leave you all in suspense until tomorrow to explain.”

August 26 at 4:40am

Tia Foster Ⓥ: “Ok now I will try and explain. However, I am not Anthony Marr so I am just doing my best to relay the info. But if you have more questions, friend him on his FB and ask him questions. He is a really nice guy. / Most people have no idea that their state wildlife management agencies are trying to keep deer populations high when so many residents complain that there are too many deer, but the agencies have financial incentives for pleasing hunters. The agencies depend on sales of hunting licenses for their funding, and hunters like a high deer population. There are many people killed each year from hitting deer with their cars. We can blame the hunters and the wildlife management groups who are hunters themselves for this! They create unnatural habitats that are deer preferred. These “food plots” are horrible. They destroy the natural forest, cut down trees, to create this deer preferred habitat which is an open space with food and plants preferable for deer to eat. When you unnaturally increase their food intake, their reproductive rate is maximized which creates MANY more deer. When their food supply is scarce, the female deer will survive but will either produce only one fawn or none at all. When it becomes manipulated, they will produce triplets. In some states, it is illegal to kill female deer. Deer are NOT monogamous. So, if you kill the bucks and not the does, you are in NO way controlling the population. Most people want the buck and not the doe. It is how hunters work. They want the biggest buck they can get. So, a single buck can go around and impregnate MANY doe. So, these evil hunters ARE A BUNCH OF WORTHLESS, LYING KILLERS!! They don’t just kill deer (which is bad enough), they cause human deaths. By increasing their population, you are causing car crashes. Statistics show areas without hunting have practically no deer related car crashes! To be part of these wildlife management boards, you HAVE TO BE A HUNTER! So, the government is pro hunting. They ARE hunters! Do not allow these monsters to lie to you anymore. There is only an overpopulation because they have created it. They are killers and dangerous ones. If you try and kick a hunter off of your land, watch out. They have passed “anti hunter harassment laws” so that these bastards can get away with whatever they want. Check out Anthony Marr’s FB. There are links to his blogs and more information. See More
August 26 at 2:09pm

Michael Estes: “Wow Tia you stated that brilliantly. i noticed something that fits in with this on the Texas parks and wildlife group that i belong to here on fb. (because i enjoy going to local state parks). well…they were announcing that hunting licenses for deer season were going on sale AND..okay i just went to their site and here’s an example ” Love to hunt but hate the high costs? Our Annual Public Hunt Permit provides access to over 1 million acres of land for just $48. License sales support wildlife conservation.” LICENSE SALES SUPPORT WILDLIFE CONSERVATION! i remember when i first said that i was like huuuuuh, my bullshit detector went off like crazy! then people were leaving comments like ‘yeah! I’ve already been practicing on roosters and chicken running loose on my land!’ listen i hate to say this but I’m starting to be FOR hunting accidents! people have the choose to kill deer which they don’t need for food but want an animal’s head over their desk or fireplace? well if they get shot while engaging in such cruelty, too bad too sad! maybe their survivors will give hunting up, even if the gov’t won’t stop it since there’s mucho dinero involved!”
August 26 at 2:37pm

Josh Goldstein: “Oh, I’m totally pro-hunting accident. People won’t give it up though. I was reading a story about the racing accident that took place recently in the desert here in Southern California which killed a few people. People who were there have no intention of giving up racing. It’s their way of life. It’s the “they would want us to keep doing it” thing. / And it’s the same with these assholes. We can only hope for accidents to keep their numbers in check.”
August 26 at 2:54pm

Michael Estes: “They’re right ‘they’ would want them to keep doing it… perpetuating the stupidity is the human condition.”
August 26 at 3:05pm

Anthony Marr: “@ Michael: Hunters have long called themselves “CONservationists”, who “conserve” for the sake of hunting, which has forced out a new term to describe true conservationists, who preserve the habitat for the animals, and preserve the animals for their own sake – PREservationists.”
August 26 at 5:59pm

Malang Ⓥ Por: “Ok, I have officially been brainfucked !! Thanks Tia and Anthony Marr. How they blind the public !!!”
August 27 at 1:08am

Josh Goldstein: “Now that I read my comment again, I don’t know if it sounded like I was hoping for racing accidents. That’s not the case. Just the hunting kind. :)”
August 27 at 1:14am

Michael Estes: “I wouldn’t worry about it josh, hunting season probably hadn’t started yet so they were polluting the desert with exhaust fumes instead.”
August 27 at 1:17am

August 27 at 1:55am

Josh Goldstein: “Amen to that.”

That very night, I drove 5 hours to my friends Ted and Carol B’s place in Rush, near Rochester, where I had stayed at least twice in my previous tours, arrival around 3 a.m. They left the door unlocked for me.

The next day, August 29, Sunday, was my friend Lois Baum’s big day. The event was called “Dovetail”, and she had worked diligently on it for weeks, sending our notice after notice, easily 5 or more. This is the way to publicize an event, considering the saying that most people need to be told something 7 times before it sinks in. As a result of her diligence, she also reported a record-breaking attendance of easily over 50 people.

So, all in all, I consider the New York leg of my 7th Compassion for Animals Road Expedition a great success. All in all, another big THANK YOU to Catherine Garneau for her excellent effort in continuing to organize the CARE-7 tour.

And to round it off, Ted B. has arranged a meeting between me and a potential future U.S. president before I leave New York this weekend for Swarthmore, PA. Not to be missed, so stay tuned!
